Most long distance companies charge slightly higher rates when using the convenience of a calling card, when compared to the rate you will get on your main phone line for your long distance account.

When using a calling card from a payphone, most long distance companies will impose a slightly higher rate than if the call was made from another residential phone line. Again, this is for the convenience factor of being able to use a calling card from a pay phone.

Most companies do not charge any fees for issuing additional cards on the same account for other family members, or only charge nominal fees to cover the card issue.
